One man is dead and his best friend is in the hospital after a shooting at a northeast side apartment complex.
The two drove for help and ended up at a popular shopping center across the complex.
Police say it happened in the parking lot of Hyde Park Town Homes.
“I’m suffocating right now, my brother has been killed,” said a relative.
A woman, who says she is the sister of the man who died, said she received confirmation from a detective.
“He and his best friend were together,” she said. “And I just found out he was killed.”
She says 27-year-old Kasim Nurani is her brother.
“That’s the only brother we have, and it’s shocking that he was killed,” she said.
Nurani died at St. Ann’s hospital. The friend he was with is alive recovering at Grant Medical Center.
Police say he stopped at an outlet store, near Columbus Square Shopping Center, ran inside and yelled for help.
“We was really close, really tight, we lived together, and it’s really sad,” she said.
A witness who did not want to be identified, fearing for his safety says he was at a friend’s apartment when he heard several gunshots.
“Around like six, seven, and they didn’t stop, they go directly after each other,” he said. “There’s a lot of people running, so we didn’t know what happened.”
Another witness says he saw several cars rush out of the parking lot soon after shots were fired.
“He’s shooting, hear everybody yelling, and running,” he said.
Police have no information on the person or people who did this. They are not identifying the second victim at this time for their safety.
Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
